icoThe story behind the Website.

(Done in third person...by the webmaster)

Getting our webmaster on the team wasn't the easiest thing to do. She first heard about the team in her sophomore year, becuase they talked about it in her technical class. One of her then friends then mentioned to the instructor that she was pretty decent at making websites, the instructor then talked to her. She took interest in the idea and tried to work it out with her parents, but they declined. So she sat that year up, and didn't really think much of it. Along came her junior year, and they then again requested that she join the team, and this time she got permission.

When our webmaster finally was able to come on the team, she relized that...the previous team websites weren't that good. Not to bash on the old webmasters, they we're nice layouts for thier time. But for one they lacked alot of content, and they we're kinda hard to get to becuase they we're on a school server.

2003 | 2005

So she sat down and started working on a layout. The first 2 layouts we're done in dreamweaver with basic html and no css that was generated by her, but by dreamweaver its self. They were what she called, "lame". They didn't have to many links, which ment not that much content. But then again, she had been out of practice for websites for about two years.

Version One | Version Two

So she sat down and started teaching herself css with the help of a certin somebody. The layouts got..better now that she had yet another codeing languae imbedded in her brain. She still wasn't satisfied with the look and amount of content and plus, if she needed a layout change she would have to change it on every single page..and that just wasn't fun.

Version Three

So she sat down one day, becuase she didn't want to wait untill meeting started again to get the domain from the team and purchased a domain by herself and got sponserd hosting from Sevaa. This..was a very good thing. She took the initiative to learn Php (solves that pesky changeing every page when there is a layout change problem) and here we are now.

Thank You Sevaa

The first layout she made with php, (which was just an old layout converted) was titled "Waffle" becuase well, she wanted a waffle. Nothing big of a story. This layout floped becuase , the menus didn't work in Opera and also becuase the menus would be the last to load and sometimes that took a while if you had a slow connection. But if they did load at a good speed, they sure we're fun to play with and also made the navigation be less overwhelming to users, which provided more content in a confined space.

The second layout that came out of the glory that is php, was title "Grecia" (pronounced Gre-sha). There's a slight story about where this name came from. The "Gre" part, came from a very friendly fellow FIRSTer named Greg Marra. Greg is still a big help to our webmaster. When she gets stuck, he's always there to help her and she thought this would be a nice way to repay him. The "cia" part came from an acronym that means "creating is achieving".

For the 2006 - 2007 our webmaster found a freshman to take under her wing, to teach them the world that is website creating. Together they ensured that this website was the best it could be for that season. Then later on in the season, an old friend of the webmaster joined the team to help with the website. One night, in the off season they were sitting there with nothing to do when our webmaster came up with the idea to translate the website into spanish. Now, seeing that the new freshman and the old friend we're both fluent in spanish, this idea took off and our website is now available in both english and spanish.

During the build season, our team had acquired some AndyMark shifters which were a very nice color of gold and went with the black motors perfectly. The rest of the team then decided that it would be cool to change the team colors to gold and black. For the 2007 season, Tatsu is now Black and Gold...that means that the website needed a make over and that leaves us where we are now, on Gold Grecia.

icoThanks from the Webmaster

First off, I would like to thank Greg Marra for all of his help and suggestions. If it wasn't for Greg, there would of been nights where I just would of trown away the whole thing, but then Greg would come through and guide me in the correct direction. Not always giving me the answer, but where to find it instead.

Next to Joseph Matt, for testing the majority of my layouts and layout fixes in Macintosh compatable browsers. Also for the suggestions on the color scheme on version three, when I had 6 themes, and helping me to delete some of them and helping determine the width of the nav bar from "grecia".

Also to Adam Richards for giving me my "introduction" lessons to both css and php. With out Adam, I would of never of gotten to the point where I am today (Always running to Greg for help..I kid, I Kid) with the deisgn of the website. And for helping me put the font on the user bar.

Next to Tim Arnold for helping me get the gallery up and running, and for suggesting the use of Google Calendar. It's great that you know all that you do and that you're willing to share your knowledge with other teams.

And to my team, for providing me with the opportunity to re-gain my skills in web desgin, to challange myself to a new level and give me an understanding of how much work goes into making a website.

Last, to Jeffrey Rodriguez for testing the layouts in Opera when I was to busy to download it and test it myself, and for sending me the screen shots of what wasn't working. Also more recently for helping me get the Calendar working with Google.

And to anyone and everyone I left out. Thank you.
